About
With a background of 20 years in management, health, emergency services and private industry, and Masters level qualifications in business, Leanne Stevens is well positioned to share her experiences with business owners and upcoming managers.
Within the ambulance industry, Leanne has achieved significant outcomes and results across a range of operational and strategic areas. She has worked at all different levels of management within ambulance in Queensland and Tasmania, up to the level of Assistant Commissioner.
Leanne was Queensland Ambulance Service’s State Director of Education from 2000 to 2005, and then was appointed Area Director for Ipswich. She most recently acted in the position of Assistant Commissioner until the birth of her first baby in September 2007.
In strategic project roles she developed a Chemical, Biological and Radiological Response capability in 2005 and, most recently, an International Recruitment Strategy for Queensland Ambulance Service which has resulted in the appointment of over 200 Qualified Paramedics from the United Kingdom, to Queensland Ambulance Service.
With a background as a Registered Nurse who commenced her career in ambulance in Tasmania in 1988, she was the first female to be appointed into a Student Paramedic role in Northern Tasmania. Ten years later she moved to Queensland to pursue a successful career in ambulance management. She has consistently maintained her clinical focus at the level of Intensive Care Paramedic, until recently participating in an on-call roster as a Rescue Paramedic on the Queensland Rescue helicopter based at Archerfield.
Awarded Ambulance Service Medal
Leanne was awarded the prestigious Ambulance Service Medal in the Australia Day Honours List 2006 in recognition of her contribution to the industry across Australia.
Academically, Leanne holds:
- Masters of Business Administration from the University of Queensland,
- Bachelor of Commerce Degree with double majors in Management and Human Resource Management,
- Advanced Diploma of Health Science (Advanced Prehospital Care) – the recognised qualification for Intensive Care Paramedics in Queensland,
- General Nursing Registration, formerly registered in Tasmania, Victoria and Queensland.
Leanne has been recognised as a female leader in the business community through numerous nominations and awards including the Directors Award for Leadership, University of Queensland; and being a Finalist in the Telstra Business Women’s Awards (Community and Government category.
She is profiled in the 2008 and 2009 Editions of Who’s Who of Australian Women and Who’s Who in Queensland.
Business Consulting
Leanne provides high level advice to industry and business, across a range of areas including strategy, operations, systems implementation, international recruitment and policy. She has completed a number of significant organisational and operational reviews which have resulted in re-alignment of structures and business priorities.
She consults privately to business owners providing Way Out Solutions - effective procedures and systems for small to medium businesses.
Previously, Leanne was the founder and co-director of a small company which provides safety and risk management services to the motorsport and automotive industry across Australia and the Asia-Pacific, before selling the business to her co-director.
Leanne is also a director of Knowledge-N-Abler, an organisation which is devoted to the better management and enablement of knowledge resources in contemporary organisations.
Professional Memberships
Leanne is regularly engaged to speak at public and private events and functions, and is considered a role model and mentor for females in management. She is currently:
- a Member of the Australian Institute of Management,
- a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and
- a Member of the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals.
